HUGE CATFISH CAUGHT AND RELEASED
(September 12, 2000)
Last Weekend I went Flathead fishing w/ my bro. Didn't catch anything for about 2 hours and felt like giving up. Just as my brother told me, "We aren't going to catch jack." His line started peeling out. We ran over to get his rod and his line was disappearing rapidly as the fish ran downstream.

PIRANHA in Minnesota?
(July 1998)
Yes, there are Piranha living in Minnesota waters. The one pictured here was caught in the Mississippi River in Minneapolis and is one of the many reasons why it is not a good idea to go swimming in the Mississippi.

Why should I practice Catch and Release Fishing?
(March 28,2001)
3. This fish looks familiar. Compare the pattern of the fish in the first and second picture. It's the same fish less than a year later but it has grown. The measurement of the fish in 1998 is 36" and in 1999 is 39". For muskie fisherman three inches is significant. If you're like me, you enjoy catching larger fish. You also probably like to fish certain lakes, even certain structures on certain lakes. Because of this, keeping fish probably hurts your fishing the most.

----Flathead Catfish Research--
Preliminary Results
(September 10, 2000)
INTRODUCTION: In a effort to maximize fishing pleasure, we seek to find the ultimate fishing spot which contains the largest fish. In order to determine the quality of a location we want to know not only the average size of fish, and the variation in fish size, but also the average weight at a given length. We seek locations were the fish are unusually heavy for a given length and project forward. Before this can be done we begin by creating a model of the typical fish. This paper focuses specifically on flathead Catfish, though this approach can be applied to any species.

IF YOU CAN CATCH THEM... THROW ROCKS
(MARCH 21, 2001)
Last weekend I made it back to MN because of a meeeting downtown. Fishing was in the cards of fate so I rounded up Uncle Pete and Sean. We went to Misses Swampy and tried our luck against the sheephead and other forces in the universe. We had a can of corn and a contain of worms. After almost being crushed by falling rocks from the cliffs we made it to a spot. Of course we didn't catch anything.
